Nitrates

Nitrates are peripheral and coronary vasodilators used in the management of angina pectoris, heart failure, and myocardial infarction. Nitrates are termed nitrovasodilators. In their action on vascular muscle, venous dilatation predominates over dilatation of the arterioles. Venous dilatation decreases venous return as a result of venous pooling, and lowers left ventricular diastolic volume and pressure (termed a reduction in preload).
