Drug Usage[edit]
- Reducing the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation
- Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism
- Reduce risk of recurrent DVT and PE
Mechanism of Action[edit]
Selectively inhibits factor Xa, preventing the formation of blood clots.
Route of Administration[edit]
Oral
Dosages[edit]
- 60 mg once daily
- No specific dosages for hypertension, heart failure, or diabetic kidney disease
Renal dosing based on eGFR:
- Mild impairment (CrCl > 50 mL/min): The recommended dose is 60 mg once daily
- Moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min): The dose should be reduced to 30 mg once daily
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl 15-29 mL/min): The recommended dose is 30 mg once daily, but should be used with caution
- End-stage renal disease (CrCl < 15 mL/min) or on dialysis: Not recommended

- Vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants, NSAIDs, antiplatelet drugs
Caution
Use with caution in patients at risk of bleeding, or taking concomitant drugs that increase risk of bleeding.
